Hi Ian
Just back online after a great Scottish tour.
Will try and get some gps points together for Werner, but most data is with
my navigator friend, Ray Bird.
He is in the Taklamakan desert, China, for another week or two.
Christ Scott at the Desert Forum might be able to advise re the Big Cairn
site.
See http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/sahara-travel-forum/
If he visits Big Cairn it might be interesting to visit the crash site of
the American WW2 bomber 'Lady be Good'.
It is not so far away, and still in Libya.
I recall we worked out a route through the Kalansho sand-sea based on
Satellite maps.
They proved unworkable at the North end and we had to make unscheduled
changes based on our Touareg guide's local knowledge.
We ended up in the same place, happily.
It was a long sandy journey with no supplies of any kind.
We were in three Land Rovers and carried 1,500km of fuel each, and ten days
water for the five-day crossing.
Send my regards to your brother.
Regards - Kit
