6th Of April - From Livingstonia to Nikhata Bay, Malawi

Martin's camp spot - I am sorry Martin thats that last time I ever give you the prime camp spot when I spotted it first! - Colin.
The Mushroom Farm was a great camp spot at Livingstonia. The road to Livingstonia was a nightmare are probably broke two of the Borgi springs. How the Borgi made it up the road was incredible

We offer to give the girls a lift.

Were on the road to Nikhata bay.

Time for a stop at the local shopping centre.

Wash day Africa style using the road ditch. - then entertaining the girls

Out of Fuel - the Borgi runs out.

Into Nikhata bay - plenty of fresh food.

Nikhata bay

In for a swim.

SMS Message from Frank

Arrived at Nkhata Bay. Will stay for 2 nights. Beautiful spot. Very romantic in a way. Other tourists are about 17 years younger than we are. We gave 2 ladies a lift from Liv to N.-Bay, lovely drive. Cheers FCM.

4th of April - Goodby Tanzania - hello Malawi

We are up early and on the road. Unfortunately its raining - and its not tropical rain - its persistant Scottish rain. Everything is packed wet and the driving is not much fun as the wind screen wipers don't work.

Bernd's old suntan lotion works well as a wind screen clearance liquid.

Petrol pump stop - Armed guards hold Frank at bay while Martin and Colin finally get some peanuts.

A green lush country is Tanzania

Uncle Frank does the currency deal on the Tanzania side of the border. Its a good rate - better than the banks we find out two days latter.

We cross the river towards the Malawi side. But first we have to sign in???

Were into
Malawi...!!!
The customs and Visa stamps ares free. But we need to get car insurance.
And so the final run into Malawi is done in a big thunderstorm in the dark. See you tube for the video. We finally find a hotel/campsite....now there is a story. But more about that tomorrow.

3rd of April - From Mizumi to Riverside, near Iringa, Tanzania

To wake up in Africa in a tent early in the morning is something you have to experience. The colours (its the rainy season) and the sound of lions is something to witness.
We are up early and Frank and Colin go for an early drive at 6am to catch the Lions. Unfortunately the Borgi gets stuck. (See the video on You Tube!) Anyway we have to dig the truck out the mud. But its worth while we see impalla, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo but not lions.

Martins up late but catches a Shower.

We leave our campsite by about 10 and head to village about an hours drive from the park where we have brunch.

The roads are good and the scenery is fantastic. There is no rain today and the roof is down.

The road to Iringa slowly climbs to about 2000m. There is the usual road carnage on the way. This one was a petrol tanker that had over turned near some road works. It had just got to close to the edge of the road. The sight of the Borgi bring cheers and shouts from the work men!

After the long climb we finally find the camp site. Its eagle eyed Frank that spots the sign. Its an off road track that desends for some way to get down to the river but its well worth it.
We meet a couple who are travelling from the Cape to Cairo - They came via Mozambique. Unfortunately the guy caught malaria and the had to suspend the trip for three weeks while he got better. They advise that the there has been a lot of flooding in Mozambique but the road although rough are passable.

There is some debate as Colin has brought three bottles of Johnny Walker Black Label - Nobody is sure if they will drink it :)
On the bright side, it might last to the end of the trip.
Let the whisky training commence.

SMS : We stayed in Riverside Camp, 12km North of Iringa! In Malawi since 5pm, camping at Karongo at Lake MW, all well and operational.
